Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question that isn’t answered, please don’t hesitate to call us at (833) 2KODIAK or email us at info@kodiaklodge.com

Q: When is the best time to book?

A: The number one question we are asked! The easy answer is anytime between June and September.  We are only open during the best fishing months so you honestly can’t pick a bad date.  It really boils down to what you want to fish for.  If it’s King Salmon and Ling Cod, then July is the best.  If it’s Coho Salmon, then August and September are best.  Halibut and rock fish are generally good all season.

Q: Is internet service available?

A: Yes, we do have wifi. Keep in mind that we are in a remote area of Alaska. On occasion it can be spotty or slow but you can generally keep connection with your family that didn’t come with you.

Keep in mind, you are traveling to one of the most pristine places on earth and most people find it to be a welcome benefit after detoxing for a few days from the electronics.  We want to make sure you enjoy your experience while you’re here and take in all that remote Alaska has to offer.

Q: Is phone service available?

A: Yes, your cell phones will work with WiFi calling.

Q: Are there any restrictions for how much fish we can take home?

A: No! Unlike many lodges, you are allowed to keep what you catch. However, the airlines have weight limits and may charge for additional boxes and we also want to be good stewards of our resources. Kodiak Lodge will fillet, freeze and vacuum pack your catch in airline approved, 50lb boxes.

Q: What are the fish limits for Kodiak?

A: Limits can change from year to year as well as emergency orders put into place, however the limits in Kodiak have been very generous compared to other parts of Alaska. For the 2025 season, our saltwater limits PER DAY, PER PERSON (excluding halibut) are:

  • 5 salmon, any combination of red, silver, chum, and pink
  • 1 king salmon – after July 1
  • 5 rockfish – no more than 2 of 1 species
  • For Kodiak Lodge, only 1 yellow eye per person, per trip
  • 2 halibut – One can be over 27″, closed Tue and Wed
  • 2 ling cods – after July 1

Our freshwater limit’s, PER DAY, PER PERSON are:

  • 5 salmon, any combination of red, silver, chum, and pink
  • King Salmon-closed on the rivers we fish

Q: What if we are weathered in and can’t make it for our entire trip?

A: Weather can be unpredictable in Alaska and losing trip days is a real possibility no matter what lodge you book with.  Obviously safety comes first for us and for the airlines.  That’s why we strongly recommend that guests purchase trip insurance. More detail on that is provided under the rates section of our website.

Q: Do many women come to Kodiak Lodge?

A: Of course! Women enjoy fishing or wildlife viewing, too! As a matter of fact, you can book a women’s only stay with the girls to have fun, relax, and reconnect your friendships. We also get several couples. Kodiak Lodge is the perfect spot to reconnect with your significant other or family members.

For your convenience and comfort, our boats are equipped with private marine flushing heads (bathrooms) and we don’t have shared bedrooms as many lodges in Alaska do.

Q: What are the sleeping accommodations?

A: Our rooms are upscale and private with comfortable queen beds, so no roommate! We designed them so that each room is separated by a Jack and Jill style shared bath. Baths are only shared with a member of your own party, however.  We do have one room with two queen beds, however and its own private bath.

Q: How many people can you accommodate?

A: For the 2026 season, we can accommodate a maximum of 12 guests at a time.

Q: Are your rooms Non Smoking?

A: Yes!  Smoking and vaping is strictly prohibited in all rooms and common areas per the Smokefree Alaska Bill (2018).  There is a smoking area away from the common and sleeping areas.

Q: How many people do you fish per boat?

A: We generally fish four per boat, although our boats are designed to comfortably handle as many as six if a group wants to all fish together.

Q: Do you offer any special corporate discounts for booking the entire lodge?

A: Absolutely!  Please contact our reservations office and we will create a custom package.

Q: What is a normal gratuity?

A: Gratuities typically range from 15% to 20% of the package price which is then divided among the entire staff.
