Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question that isn’t answered, please don’t hesitate to call us at (833) 2KODIAK or email us at info@kodiaklodge.com
Q: When is the best time to book?
A: The number one question we are asked! The easy answer is anytime between June and September. We are only open during the best fishing months so you honestly can’t pick a bad date. It really boils down to what you want to fish for. If it’s King salmon, then June and July are best. If its Coho salmon, then August and September are best. Halibut and rock fish are generally good all season.
Q: Is internet service available?
A: Yes, we do have wifi, but it’s not like your service at home. It can be slow and frustrating at times and only work in the lodge itself and not in individual rooms. You are traveling to one of the most pristine places on earth and most people find it to be a welcome benefit after detoxing for a few days from the computer. We want to make sure you enjoy your experience while you’re here and take in all that remote Alaska has to offer.
Q: Is phone service available?
A: Yes, we have a landline at the lodge, which can be used for emergencies or to check in with family members. Your cell phones will not work in Larsen Bay however.
Q: Are there any restrictions for how much fish we can take home?
A: No! Unlike many lodges, you are allowed to keep what you catch. However, the airlines have weight limits and may charge for additional boxes and we also want to be good stewards of our resource. Kodiak Lodge will fillet, freeze and vacuum pack your catch in airline approved, 50lb boxes.
Q: What are the fish limits for Kodiak?
A: Limits can change from year to year, however the limits in Kodiak have been very generous compared to other parts of Alaska. For the 2020 season, our saltwater limit’s PER DAY, PER PERSON (excluding halibut) are:
- 5 salmon, any combination of red, silver, chum, and pink
- 2 king salmon
- 4 pelagic rockfish
- 1 non pelagic rockfish
- 2 halibut – One has to be under 26″, Four fish per season. Closed Tue and Wed
- 2 ling cod-after July 1
Our freshwater limit’s, PER DAY, PER PERSON are:
- 5 salmon, any combination of red, silver, chum, and pink
- King Salmon-closed on the rivers we fish
Q: What if we are weathered in and can’t make it for our entire trip?
A: Weather can be unpredictable in Alaska and losing trip days is a real possibility no matter what lodge you book with. Obviously safety comes first for us and for the airlines. That’s why we strongly recommend that guests purchase trip insurance. More detail on that is provided under the rates section of our website.
Q: Is there anything to do besides fishing?
A: We are primarily a fishing lodge, however the wildlife viewing is spectacular. Whales, sea otters, eagles, sea lions, and of course the Kodiak Brown Bear are all abundant throughout Kodiak. Later in the season and into the fall there are excellent hunting opportunities as well.
Q: Do many women come to Kodiak Lodge?
A: Of course! We are not a Spa, but every year we get several couples and its the perfect spot to reconnect with your significant other. Our boats are quipped with private marine flushing heads and we don’t have shared bedrooms as many lodges in Alaska do.
Q: What are the sleeping accommodations?
A: Our rooms are upscale and private with comfortable queen beds, so no roommate! We designed them so that each room is separated by a Jack and Jill style shared bath. Baths are only shared with a member of your own party however. We do have one room with two queen beds, however and its own private bath.
Q: How many people can you accommodate?
A: We accommodate a maximum of 8 guests per week.
Q: Are your rooms Non Smoking?
A: Yes! Smoking is strictly prohibited in all rooms. If you are smoking on the deck, windows and doors to the room must be completely shut.
Q: How many people do you fish per boat?
A: We generally fish four per boat, although our boats are designed to comfortably handle as many as six if a group wants to all fish together.
Q: Do you offer any special corporate discounts for booking the entire lodge?
A: Absolutely! Please contact our reservations office and we will create a custom package.
Q: What is a normal gratuity?
A: Gratuities typically range from 10% to 15% of the package price which is then divided among the entire staff.
