A: Our custom aluminum boats are built for Kodiak waters. Our 28ft cabin cruiser by Fish Rite has a full marine head and comfortable cabin for getting out of the weather. We also fish from a 26ft Hewescraft with a cabin, standup head and twin 115 Yamaha motors. Our rods and reels are the latest from Daiwa. We also provide rubber boots & have backup raingear if needed, but recommend bringing your own.
A: Weather is unpredictable in Alaska so it’s best to bring layered clothing and raingear. If you are interested in hard alcohol, then you will want to bring that also, as we don’t provide. Of course you will want to bring a camera as well.
A: No! This is what makes Kodiak Lodge so unique. Many lodges require fly outs which can be great if the weather cooperates. However, in Alaska there are many days where you shouldn’t fly. At Kodiak Lodge fly outs are available, however they are not required. We are able to access rivers by boat, ATV, or a short hike and the saltwater fishing is done a short boat ride from the lodge.
A: It really depends on what you want to fish for. June and July are best for King Salmon while August and September are best for Silver Salmon. Halibut and bottom fishing is generally good throughout the season. If you are interested in Steelhead, the best time is October and November.
A: We fish all 5 species of salmon (Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Pink, Chum) as well as Steelhead, Dolly Varden Trout, Halibut, Yellow Eye, Lingcod and a variety of Rockfish. Due to our location we are able to fish both saltwater and freshwater.
A: You will book a flight to Anchorage with continuing service to Kodiak. Once you arrive in Kodiak you will hop a flight with Island Air to Larsen Bay where our staff will meet you on the landing strip and shuttle you to our lodge. There are also direct charters available from Anchorage, we can help set that up if you choose.
A: Kodiak Lodge is located on Kodiak Island in a small village called Larsen Bay. Larsen Bay is approximately 60 air miles from the city of Kodiak and is only accessible by plane or boat.
